چکیده

A number of authors have considered multivariate Gaussian models for marginal independence. In this paper we develop models for binary data with the same independence structure. The models can be parameterized based on Mobius inversion and maximum likelihood estimation can be performed using a version of the Iterated Conditional Fitting algorithm. The approach is illustrated on a simple example. Relations to multivariate logistic and dependence ratio models are discussed.

Binary models of marginal independence: a comparison of different approaches

Graphical models of marginal independence, introduced by Cox & Wermuth [1] with the name of covariance graph models, are also known in the literature as bidirected graph models following Richardson [6]. These models are of special interest because they belong to the families of ancestral and summary graphs; see Wermuth & Sadeghi [8] for a review. Let G = (V,E) be a bidirected graph defined by a...

Marginal modeling of multilevel binary data with time-varying covariates.

We propose and compare two approaches for regression analysis of multilevel binary data when clusters are not necessarily nested: a GEE method that relies on a working independence assumption coupled with a three-step method for obtaining empirical standard errors, and a likelihood-based method implemented using Bayesian computational techniques. Implications of time-varying endogenous covariat...

Factorial Mixture of Gaussians and the Marginal Independence Model

Marginal independence constraints play an important role in learning with graphical models. One way of parameterizing a model of marginal independencies is by building a latent variable model where two independent observed variables have no common latent source. In sparse domains, however, it might be advantageous to model the marginal observed distribution directly, without explicitly includin...

Analysis of Binary Spatial Data by Quasi - Likelihood Estimating Equations

The goal of this paper is to describe the application of quasi-likelihood estimating equations for spatially correlated binary data. In this paper, a logistic function is used to model the marginal probability of binary responses in terms of parameters of interest. With mild assumptions on the correlations, the Leonov–Shiryaev formula combined with a comparison of characteristic functions can b...

True-and-error models violate independence and yet they are testable

Birnbaum (2011) criticized tests of transitivity that are based entirely on binary choice proportions. When assumptions of independence and stationarity (iid) of choice responses are violated, choice proportions could lead to wrong conclusions. Birnbaum (2012a) proposed two statistics (correlation and variance of preference reversals) to test iid, using random permutations to simulate p-values....
